Absentminded, Volume 2 – Homeless & Duct Tape

Volume 2
Volume 2, Part 4 of Absentminded

In the fourth Lisa story, Lisa awakes in Hank’s lab, extremely cognizant of who she was before her Russian capture. The prototype injection designed to help her recover her memories, it seems, worked really well, except for one minor problem: it has blocked all memories of her post-gulag experiences. Believing she is still a Russian prisoner, she easily escapes the unguarded laboratory, passing, on her way to the streets, her own son and her best friend, Caroline, neither of whom she recognizes. Caroline pursues her.

Volume 2, Part 5 of Absentminded

Two years later, Lisa wears a much-improved patch that infuses into her body the enzymes needed to retrieve most of her memories. On a visit to her beloved aunt and family in Nebraska, her cousin Tom, an Air Force major, introduces Lisa to evidence that Lisa’s parents, killed in a plane crash when Lisa was just a teen, were actually murdered. With him, Lisa embarks on an investigation of the members of the board of her dead father’s Minnesota company. There Lisa meets Rosemarie, a young woman who may be her half-sister.

In a Planned Parenthood clinic where Lisa and Rosemarie have gone to submit their DNA for testing, an explosion takes out Lisa’s car and with it goes her supply of enzyme patches. Though her memories rapidly fade, Lisa with Rosemarie and Tom continue the pursuit of clues into the north woods and lakes of Minnesota. In so doing, they uncover a scheme involving mercenaries and industrial espionage. Only Lisa has the instinct and training to stand between the thieves and their goal. Her goal is stop them without killing a single one. In this process, she convinces Troy McIntyre, a Navy SEAL sent to rescue her, to assist her instead.
